NOTICE: PODCASTACADEMICS MIGRATION TO ZULIP

Dear Podcacademics Colleagues!

On behalf of our steering team (John Sullivan, Kim Fox, Richard Berry, Lori Beckstead, Martin Spinelli, Mia Lindgren, Siobhan McHugh, Tiziano Bonini), we wanted to let you know of an important change to our online presence.

We have been communicating and collaborating on Slack on their free plan/tier since 2020, but last month we were contacted by Slack Support to let us know that all messages older than 90 days would now be subject to deletion on the free tier of Slack. Paying to upgrade Slack would be prohibitively expensive ($6 per user per month, and we have over 200 users), so Kim, Richard and I began to immediately look for alternatives. We didn’t want our group’s history and archive of collaboration to be deleted.

We have settled on a Slack-like service called Zulip, which is open source and can be self-hosted. We opted to have our instance hosted by Zulip itself (zulipchat.com). Unlike Slack, Zulip has upgraded us to their standard tier for free, which means that no messages will ever be deleted, and all messages will be searchable as well. All public channels and messages have been imported from Slack, as well as all user accounts. Every user will need to reset their password, however, to gain access to Zulip, and you will be receiving an email from Zulip Support requesting that you reset your password.Once you do, you’ll have access to Zulip and the podacademics group once again.

You can access the new site here: https://podacademics.zulipchat.com/login/

Zulip can be accessed via a web browser, but also has desktop and mobile apps as well, just like Slack: https://zulip.com/apps/

We will be slowly winding down the Slack over the next 4-6 weeks, so we encourage everyone to reset your password on Zulip and join us there. Messages and posts on Slack from this point forward will not be transferred to Zulip, so we encourage you to engage with us on Zulip from this point forward.

Thank you for reading and we look forward to seeing you on Zulip soon!
